Review of The Ultimate Secrets of Total Self-Confidence by Robert Anthony

This is a book review of Dr. Robert Anthony’s The Ultimate Secrets of Total Self-Confidence.

The first edition dates back to 1979 and was a big hit then with sporting teams like the Chicago Cubs heavily using the book. Now, the third edition is proving just as popular. Dr. Robert Anthony provides a book on confidence jammed into 183 pages of hard-hitting information.

He gets right to the point from the start with several empowering statements on personal development in the introduction. The first chapter provides a non-spiritual focus in discussing your limiting beliefs and dehypnotizing yourself. If you are lacking confidence, Dr. Robert Anthony says the basis for your low-level of confidence and poor self-esteem are your disempowering beliefs. He says you are limited by what he calls “mistaken uncertainties” which constrain your ability to succeed in various areas of life.

Chapter 13 is titled “Move Ahead Through Positive Communications” and provides basic communication skills that most people will know. However, it is the basics most people overlook and do not use which are extremely helpful. The advice in this chapter revolves around listening and showing other forms of interest in people. It basically teaches a few principles mentioned in Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People. Some other tips for small talk are also scattered through the chapter.

The book does not just focus on confidence in areas like communication and love, but extends to being confident in your career, financially, and health. It is a step-by-step guide to approaching complete self-confidence. If you have a fear of failure, rejection, and even success, then the book will be of help to you.

What stood out for me in The Ultimate Secrets of Total Self-Confidence was Dr. Robert Anthony’s hard-hitting facts throughout the entire book that seemed to speak right to me. Time and time again he discussed how certain behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs formed in a way that “hit the nail” every time. The book gave me a deep insight into the origins of lacking total self-confidence. The chapters on low self-esteem personalities and types of guilt were extremely insightful.

The Ultimate Secrets of Total Self-Confidence will do anyone who reads it the benefit of improving their life. A title on self-confidence does its content a minor disadvantage as the principles extend beyond confidence and to becoming the best you can be.
